It’s with great enthusiasm and excitement that the Barre Youth Sports Hockey (Blades and Black Hawks), Central Vermont Skating Association (Capitals), Harwood Youth Hockey Association (Highlanders), and Northfield Amateur Hockey Association (North Stars and Blizzard) announce their merger to form the Central Vermont Youth Hockey beginning with the 2022-23 season!

We believe the unification of our four clubs’ resources will allow us to grow the game of hockey in Central Vermont. Together, we can improve the development experience and increase the opportunities available to players while keeping youth hockey affordable, and inclusive in our communities.  To see a complete list of all the merger benefits and updated FAQs, visit www.blackbearhockey.org.  This page will continue to be your best point of reference, as we will update our hockey community periodically regarding the season, tryouts, start dates etc.  We suggest you bookmark this page for future reference!

This merger, we are excited to be able to offer top tier, co-ed and girls only teams - at the 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U levels!  Here is what you can expect from each level.

Team Expectations

Intro to Hockey Team Info:

Tuition includes 2 practices a week that will start in mid/late October and run through January.  CVYH has signed on to be part of the Little Bruins program coming later this summer/fall to Vermont!  You can read more about it here.  This provides families, for a minimal registration fee, to not only get all the necessary hockey equipment for your player, but it also provides four on ice sessions at our rinks prior to the season kicking off.  There will be more details to come around how to register for the Little Bruins and when the date is to bring your players to be fitted for their gear.  Please note, this is a one-time opportunity by player, between the ages of 4-9, that has not played organized hockey before.  If your  child has participated in the Little Bruins in the past, they are not eligible a second time. This is a great cost effective and fun (see VSAHA website for picture of past events) way to outfit your new hockey player!

If you are looking for an alternative way to get your players hockey gear at a low price, Pure Hockey also sells kits with all the necessary hockey gear.  If you are unsure of your players size, check out the size charts here.

8U, 10U, 12U and 14U Team Info:

Tuition includes 2 practices a week.  Games will begin the end of October, playing a combination of home/away, on the weekends.  “Home” games will be played at either Central Vermont Memorial Civic Center, Waterbury Ice Center, the BOR or Kreitzberg Arena.  Additionally, there will be skills clinics, run by the Norwich University Men’s and Women’s Hockey Teams that will be an additional opportunity for skill development held at Kreitzberg Arena. Season runs from October - February.

8U House Mites – Two practices a week and intersquad scrimmage on weekend.  End of season jamboree with visiting teams.

8U Travel Mites- Two practices a week and home/away games beginning at the end of October.  Tuition also includes entry into one “in-state” tournament  (i.e. Ike Lee, Andrew Irving, BAHA Mite Tournament etc).

10U – Two practices a week and home/away games beginning end of October.  Tuition also includes entry into the state tournament.

12U - Two practices a week and home/away games beginning end of October.  Tuition also includes entry into the state tournament.

14U - Two practices a week and home/away games beginning end of October.  Tuition also includes entry into the state tournament.

Top Tier Team Info:

                8U Travel Mites-

The major difference between the regular co-ed and Top Tier teams, is the Top Tier teams will benefit from an additional practice weekly and additional tournament opportunities. The Top Tier 8U Travel team, will include 3 practices a week and entry into one tournament.  Games will be played, both home and away, on the weekends.  Season will run October – March.

10U, 12U and 14U Top Tier Team Info: (including Girls Program)

For all Top Tier Teams (10U-14U), we will provide 3 practices a week and entry into 3 tournaments.  There may be opportunities for dryland training sessions during the season.  Season will run October – March.

*** For all levels*** :  Individual teams may organize and arrange additional on-ice and off-ice activities for their teams – for example, additional tournaments and practices, however that is outside of your CVYH tuition and will be scheduled and paid for by the individual team.

Tryout Information:

In order for CVYH to prepare and schedule games accordingly for the season, we will be holding tryouts on the dates listed below.  These tryouts will be conducted by outside evaluators and will be for 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U.  These tryouts are for all levels, including Top Tier. It is expected that players attend at least one of the two sessions offered for 10U, 12U and 14U.

We would like to extend the invite for the Girls Skate on 8/3 to all girls in our program, not just those interested in playing on an all girls team!  For girls interested in cross rostering on co-ed and girls teams, please attend both tryouts.

For the 8U level, please only attend the 8U Travel Mite tryout if your player is interested in being considered for the Top Tier team.

If your player is interested in being considered for the Top Tier team, we will ask you to notify CVYH prior to tryouts so we can notate that.  If your player is placed on the Top Tier team, we will work with you to collect the additional tuition dues.  See tuition prices below. You must be registered with CVYH to attend tryouts!

Please read through each page carefully to ensure that all information is provided accurately. To complete registration through our secure site, please have your Visa, MasterCard and Discover available.  All payments must be made onlineCVYH is covering the credit card processing fees so that families do not have to!   There are options to pay in full or via payment plan (Payment Plan Terms = 25% at time of registration and 25% due 10/15, 11/15 and 12/15 respectively).

Before completing the CVYH registration – see Step 1 below!

Step 1 – Each player MUST register with USA Hockey using their website. CLICK HERE to go to USA Hockey Registration and register your player(s). Remember to register EACH of your players with USA Hockey, EACH YEAR. Each player must have their own unique USA Hockey confirmation number. There will be a USA Hockey registration fee. The registration fee is waived for those players 6 years and younger, but the registration is still required.  Remember to save the confirmation code(s); you will need it in Step 2. (Please note: Players need to register for a new USA Hockey Number every year, registering with a previous years USA Hockey # will result in issues when rostering – which can delay your players ability to play).

Step 2 – Return to this registration form and proceed (click on the continue button at the bottom of the page).   Please ensure each page is completed.

Step 3 – Finalize registration.

FAMILY DISCOUNT

If you are registering two players in your family this season, you will receive a 10% discount on each additional child’s registration fee. The full registration fee will be paid on the highest registration, with subsequent family registrations being given at a 10% discount.  Please note, this 10% discount does not apply to Intro to Hockey  and 8U House levels.

In order for the registration system to recognize that your family is registering multiple players, please register all of your players at this time.  On the Review Page, there is a link near the bottom to "Register Another Player" - please click on this link to ensure that all of your family's players are registered within the same order.  Sibling discounts will be returned to the family in the form of a “credit” on their account (if doing payment plan option) or a refund via check.

***Failure to do so will result in a forfeiture of your family's discounted rates.***

Jersey Selection

This year, tuition includes a game jersey (and matching socks), with your name on the back!  With that, we need to capture your players jersey size.  Please see the sizing information on the www.cvhockey.org so that you are able to choose the appropriate size during registration.
